Add a 3D model to a Project when you need a clean clay view before rendering. CAD Scene converts the source on the server, then the viewer loads a private texture-free GLB. Conversion does not use render credits.
Supported files
V1 accepts:
- GLB and glTF with companions;
- IFC and IFCZIP;
- STEP/STP, IGES/IGS, BREP, and FCStd;
- BLEND, FBX, DAE, ABC, USD, USDA, USDC, and USDZ;
- OBJ, STL, PLY, 3MF, 3DS, and supported 3D-mesh DXF;
- Rhino 3DM when the file contains cached render meshes.
RVT/RFA, SKP, MAX/C4D, DWG, PLN/VWX, NWD/NWC, and modern DGN are not V1 inputs. Export one supported exchange format first. A package can be one file, a file with companions, a folder, or a ZIP. It must contain exactly one root model and stay within 200 MB combined.
Upload and open a model
- Open the Project settings rail and choose 3D models.
- Drop one package anywhere on the model panel, or choose Add model / Folder.
- Leave the Project if needed. Upload, checking, conversion, optimization, and preview continue in the background.
- Open the ready preview tile. Inside a Project this opens a full-screen modal without discarding the workspace draft. The dedicated model route remains available for a direct link.
Replacement keeps the current model available until every new derivative and preview is ready. A failed replacement leaves the current model unchanged.
Inspect and compose
Use Scene to search the layer/object hierarchy, toggle layers, select objects, Focus, Hide, Isolate, or Restore. The six-plane Section box reveals interiors without editing geometry.
Use Orbit for composition. Capable desktop models may offer collision-aware Walk; Fly is unrestricted. Tablets use touch Fly controls. Phones intentionally keep Orbit, views, camera composition, and capture only.
Use the view cube or camera controls for standard, perspective, two-point, and orthographic views. Save a named view when you want to return to the same camera, visibility, clipping, navigation, and appearance. Imported source cameras are read-only.
The View panel offers clay, clay with edges, hidden line, restrained clay tones, Studio/Sun/Flat light, shadows, exposure, background, and ground. Textures, source materials, source lights, animation, and scripts are never displayed.
Correct model setup
Use View → Model setup only when scale or orientation is wrong.
- Review the units/up axis detected during import.
- Choose the intended source units, Y/Z up, optional quarter turn, and whether to center/place on ground.
- Apply setup.
The current artifacts stay usable while CAD Scene reruns the pinned finalizer from the retained normalized source. Success atomically refreshes full/detail GLBs, manifest and previews, then clears geometry-relative saved/session views. Existing captures remain unchanged.
Older models created before setup-contract support show setup as unavailable. Replace the source to create a compatible version.
Capture and Enhance
- Choose Capture.
- Select Current, a fixed ratio, or bounded Custom dimensions.
- Choose 1K, 2K, or 4K and solid/transparent background.
- Use the safe frame to finalize composition.
- Choose Download for a local PNG or Save capture for a Project image.
Capture pixels exclude viewer chrome, selection, section guides, and safe-frame guides. A 4K capture attempts Full geometry and records an explicit fallback if Full cannot load.
Saved captures appear in the capture strip and normal image picker. Rename, Download, Delete, or choose Use in Enhance. Enhance attaches the capture as the source, keeps the Project workspace draft, and does not send automatically. Deleting the source 3D model does not delete its captures.
Recover a conversion
Open a failed tile for the known recovery reason.
- Retry uses retained source when it is still eligible.
- Replace uploads a corrected export.
- IFC needs visible building elements.
- solid CAD may need invalid solids repaired or visible surfaces exported.
- DCC should be a static visible scene.
- DXF needs 3D face/mesh entities.
- 3DM needs cached render meshes saved from a shaded Rhino view.
Details are sanitized. Signed URLs, server paths, commands, filenames, and raw converter logs are never shown.
